This ornately decorated Bandolier Bag has wide shoulder straps to be worn across the body, and a connecting bag. The bags are primarily made by women, but worn for ceremonial occasions by men, seen as an object of prestige. There is no particular purpose to the bag, other than for show as the bag could be an indicator for the wearers’ status and wealth.
The style has a European influence as it is made using traded items such as cloth and glass beads. The design is also influenced by European soldiers who used bags this shape to carry cartridges for rifles.
