The kayak model represents the ingenuity of North American Indians. A kayak would be used as a hunting craft, enabling the Indians to catch food sources such as fish that the ocean and lakes provide. This example shows how the manhole is sealed with the rider’s anorak preventing the kayak from filling with water if it were to capsize, enabling a higher chance of a successful hunting trip. This example is made from animal bone, and a real kayak made from prepared seal skin would be further protected with oil to retain its waterproof cover.
